Smile Purdy Baby
A little over four years ago, the summer after first grade, my son was asked to go swimming. He traveled to a friends house with his full face helmet on, but he proceeded to the next child’s house without a helmet and a short while later we were in the emergency room. A broken nose, concussion, smashed teeth, and over 30 stitches later our date with the dentist began.
Now, trust me when I say it was a LONG date with the dentist - still going strong even today.
Mr. C’s bike wreck is what started the chain. From the wreck, we had to go to an oral surgeon to have the broken teeth removed from his upper lip (GROSS) and gums. OK, simple enough, but not really.
From the removal we had to some light reconstruction, which led to other teeth being pulled, which led to a frame being placed in the bottom of his mouth to hold teeth in place. OK, gets even better.
Then another set of x-rays later, we learned that Mr. C had some upper extra teeth. So, another few appointments later along with a surgery, all the extra teeth - four to be exact - were removed.
Then after almost six months of waiting for his top front adult teeth to come in, we were told by the dentist that only one was coming in, the other wasn’t coming down on its own. So in comes the orthodontist.
After the ortho consult, we were told that the process of bringing down the adult tooth would take about one year, an upper spacer to widen his mouth, another visit to the oral surgeon for bracket placement, and a lot of patience.
So, here we are now, finally, the tooth is down, the spacers are still in, and his mouth is a mess. So after he has his last baby tooth pulled next week, he goes in to have a full set of braces placed.
I am so tired of dentists and so is he, but he will definitely have a million dollar smile!
