training day 26

June 17th, 2008 Brunette

WHEW! I’m exhausted. In general, just not from training. I have caught myself almost dozing off sitting at my desk today. Thankfully, I’m here alone, so when my head falls against my desk, I will be the only one to hear the painful shriek.

Training was uneventful, but without having trained all last week, except for Saturday, my body felt every movement and every pound it lifted. Mostly free weights today. Leg curls, arm curls, you know the drill. I started off jump roping and then moved into my lunges. Two of my favorite things!

All arms and legs today, so I will most likely work on some abs at home. I have really felt like I am neglecting my abs and that spot is what I need worked the most! As long as I don’t pass out right when I get home, abs is on tonight’s menu.

Like I said, uneventful. Trainer K and I really had similar weeks last week, so we worked slow and talked about the pit of fire from hell that is burning in both of our lives right now.

One thing good did come happen today, my mom went ahead and booked and PAID for my hotel room when I go home for my sister’s wedding. WHOOHOO! She said she wanted to do it and it was a surprise for me. She had to tell me now since I was getting ready to book rooms.

Awesome! I am grateful she did it. Most of you know how much that really helps me out right now and she does too. So, a big ole’ thanks to mom!

OK all, time for me to hit the road soon. Taking son to an orientation at LearningRX and need to get packed up.

Training Day 8

March 27th, 2008 Brunette

Trainer K showed me a new friend today. Oh how I use to hate those lunges. Now they are the love of my life compared to the  *gulp* stability ball! I hate it! My abs are on fire and I really want someone to put them out for me. Please? When she said, “Ab workout.” OK. Then she said, “We will get a whole body workout from this.” Again, OK. She showed me the ball, I was ready to go. How stupid the newbie is.

I didn’t think anything of it. Never used a stability ball before. Remember, no clue about working out. I should have that made into a tattoo on my forehead. Back to the story. To me the ball was plastic filled with air; a bundle of bouncing joy to help me get into shape. Well, maybe next month it might be a happy bundle, but today, oh no, it was torture.

It was a total body workout. You literally have to use your entire core and concentration to keep yourself on the ball. I rolled a few times, not off, but around. The power needed in your legs - thighs and butt - to keep you in one location and then using your core to keep you on the ball; that alone helped me sweat enough to keep me good for exercise until next week. Unfortunately, Trainer K didn’t let me off that easy. She threw in the ab workout too!

Now, today wasn’t about reps. It was all timed. So, normally abs are say 3 sets of 25. Not today. Today, I did 3 sets, but each one minute long with a rest in between. So, instead of 75 total, it was up to around 150 or something like that. Upper abs, lower abs, obliques, oh my! And not just one form of crunch for upper abs, oh no, there were like four versions for each: upper, lower, and obliques. Oh yes, oh my.

Then of course we had to throw in some thighs and butt into just staying on the ball while trying to crunch. Boy, I can tell this is a technique I am going to have to master, and soon. Trainer K plans to make the stability ball my friend. When that happens, it means I am going to be using it almost EVERY session. Happiness is just poring out of me, can’t ya tell?

Now, I get to look forward to waking up tomorrow in pain and kickboxing on Saturday. Wish me luck!

Training Day 3

March 11th, 2008 Brunette

I am surprised that I am not in a terrible amount of pain. I’m sore, but livable. Today, I worked on my legs and abs. Always abs of some sort. My trainer had me do the bike for ten minutes to warm up, then the dreaded step which killed my thighs last week, and then some balancing stretches to murder my poor calves. I am A-OK!

Hopefully since I am not feeling too sore today that means that my body is beginning to handle the change it is taking on. No, no physical changes that can be seen, but I am beginning to feel better. I seem to have more energy. I also seem to have a huge freaking appetite after working out.

So, I will be changing up my food plan, bigger breakfast before hand, so I am not so hungry after and want to eat house and home. Then I will modify my other smaller meals to help out.

One thing I have noticed is how weak my body is. Many of the muscles I am using haven’t ben exercised in forever. I can especially feel it in my arms/shoulders. When working on free weights, I push myself to the limit, but really struggle because I just can’t find that last humph to get over the hurdle. I know as I continue, soon it will be no problem. Right now it is frustrating.

That is it for today. Next training day 4 is on Thursday! See you then.

Training Day 2

February 28th, 2008 Brunette

I have realized something very vital when hiring a personal trainer - never be late and never miss a session. I am only on my second training session, so neither one pertains to me. I have been there both times, ready to go, unfortunately the same can not be said for my personal trainer.

I was there at 8 AM, walking my ass off on the treadmill, watching Good Morning America, and getting the most horrendous cramp in my foot. I kept going. After 25 minutes of walking and almost 15 minutes into my training session, my trainer was still not there. I kept walking!

Well, 8:45 AM rolled around, signaling the end of the training session that she never showed for and time for me to shower and head off to work. It’s weird, I thought the client was suppose to ditch training, not the other way around.

Still no return phone call, no reply to my email, but that’s OK… I was still there, devoted to getting my body and mind in shape, too bad my personal trainer can’t be as devoted.

Now, I know there are always reasons why someone might miss, but if you know you have an appointment and can’t make it, call the night before, call the morning of, something, so you don’t leave someone like me hanging that already is having issues with the reason for a personal trainer to begin with.
